Standard rh threads
I think it is the same as my 98 and you put a wrench on the bolt at the center of the tensioner pulley and push away from the belt.
No they are right handed righty tighty, lefty Lucy threads. The bolt is in there pretty tight though so it can be hard to get out with hand tools. Most of the time when you pull on it hard enough to lossen it you will spin the motor before it comes loose. You will probably need an impact wrench or find some way to keep the motor from rolling over.
Not unless the bearing in that pulley is noisy or rough when you spin it.
first remove the belt by inserting a 3/8" drive in the square hole on the tensiner, then remove the one bolt just below the tensioner and then remove the center bolt on the pully (allen wrench).
On Google images, search "diagram of pulley system for 1998 Isuzu trooper"
its easier to put the pulley on first, then thread the belt up to the pulley then use a wrench to pull against the spring on the pulley, then slide the belt in. using a 15mm wrench on the bolt or an Allen will give you all the leverage you need for an easy install
Remove beltUnbolt tensioner and remove
What about this tensioner? How do you remove it, or how do you releave the tension so you can replace the belt?
Don't know what year you have but try this:The tensioner is located above the alternator. If you have an 8mm Allen wrench, use it to turn the tensioner arm clockwise with one hand, and remove the drive belt with the other. If you don't have the Allen wrench, use any 15mm wrench instead at the tensioner pulley nut to achieve the same.
under the hood, the owners manual, a chiltons or haynes manual or at autozone.com A 2001 Honda passport is the same thing is an 2001 Isuzu rodeo. Isuzu made them and Honda bought and resold them under their own name. yes go to autozone if possible. if not maybe they can email you the diagram. They will also loan you the breaker bar. it makes it easier but you don't need one. it is simply a wrench or socket attached to a 2 or 3 foot handle for leverage. I think i used a 14mm wrench You need as much leverage as possible because it is very hard to push the tensioner pulley down.the tensioner pulley is right above the alternator pulley just left of center of the front of the engine. Route the serpentine belt everywhere except for maybe the idler pulley (a small pulley on top which doesnt run anything) and push DOWN or clockwise on the tensioner pulley. you do this by putting a socket or wrench on the bolt in the center of the tensioner pulley and push down or clockwise. this will give you the slack you need to slip the belt over the last pulley. Just make sure that the serpentine belt is in all the tracks fully. Anyone can do this!
Loosen the tensioner pulley. Remove the power steering belt. Remove the power steering hose. Remove the power steering retaining bolts. The power steering pump will come off.
From the generator over the idle pulley the over the power steering pump pulley then down aound the bottom of the ac compressor, up and over the water pump, around the bottom of the crankshaft then up over the tensioner, ending at the underside of the generator.
