As a truck driver, I have passed St. George, Ut., the last city on Interstate 15 before crossing to Arizona, and Nevada towards Las Vegas. Since about 70%(?) of UTAHans are Mormons, we may presume that the majority of St. George Residents are Mormons. But there are several Churches of different Christians denominations sprouting in SG here and there. Mormon Temples are distinguishable by their architecture with the Angel Moroni on top of one of the spire. Another Answer: As a Mormon who has lived in Utah for 21 years and was married in the "Mormon" Temple in St. George, I can tell you that yes, there are a large number of Mormons in St. George. It was originally a Mormon Pioneer settlement. The oldest temple still used by the church is located in St. George, however, it does not have an Angel Moroni on the top. That tradition did not start until the Salt Lake Temple was built.
It is true that there are several churches of different Christian denominations in Saint George, and there are plenty of people who live there that are not members of the Mormon Church.
The Mormons had intended on settling an area much larger than modern-day Utah and naming it Deseret. However, the federal government didn't want the Mormons having such a large territory, so they cut it down and renamed it Utah.

Utah.
Idaho has the second highest percentage of Mormons of any state. Utah, of course, has the highest. Utah has the largest number of Mormons, while California has the second highest number of Mormons. Idaho has the third highest number of Mormons.
Utah was settled by Mormons.
Mormons founded Salt Lake City, Utah, the capital of Utah. Actually, they founded the whole state of Utah...
The Mormons were searching for a place where they could practice their religion in peace and found that place in Utah.
Yes, definately. There are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) in every state of the US. There are over 6 million Mormons in the United States. The state with the largest number of Mormons is Utah with 1.8 million Mormons. The state with the fewest number of Mormons is Rhode Island, with about 4,000 Mormons.
Individual members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) have lived in every state before moving to Utah. However, historically the headquarters of the Church (and therefore most of the leaders and a large number of members) has moved from New York to Ohio to Missouri to Illinois and finally to Utah where it has been since 1847. Today there are over 6 million Mormons living in every state of the United States and 14.5 million Mormons living around the world. Only about 10% (1.5 million) of all Mormons today live in Utah.
