Francis and Dominic set up orders of friars, monks who did not live in isolated monasteries but rather traveled around Europe's towns preaching to the poor. Francis set up the "Franciscan Order", and preached poverty, humility, and love of God. Dominic set up the "Dominican Order", whose chief goal was to combat heresy by teaching official Roman Catholic beliefs.
