Yes, there are satellite companies that offer movies on demand. Direct TV offers many movies you can choose to purchase anytime you want to watch. They seem to have much more of a choice also, at least in my area.

A "live satellite" is something that is being shown "live" from a satellite, such as images from space, or views of the Earth from a satellite in outer space. TV programs you watch on satellite is not considered "live satellite".

Can home satellite tv be used mobile ie motor home?

It could be done, but if you have the really large satellite dishes, you'd have to find something a bit more travel friendly. You'd want the tripod mount for the satellite.

Choosing a Satellite Television Provider?

There are only two major satellite providers in the US offering television via satellite. One is DirecTV and the other is Dish Network. However, even though there are only two competitors the competition is lively. Both companies are doing their best to lock in customers for at least a year’s service by offering special deals and packages. There is more to consider than just the monthly bill. Satellite TV companies now offer local channels in their lineup. It used to be a big drawback that satellite TV didn’t have local channels. Satellite TV has high-definition channels and for the premium channels such as HBO and Showtime, there is a competitive advantage over some cable TV providers in that there are more premium channels available in the satellite TV packages. Satellite TV had On Demand services before cable with many Pay-Per-View channels in both Dish Network and DirecTV’s lineup. The downside is that a satellite receiver box needs to be connected at each television in the house in order to watch a different channel on each TV. Also, old TV cable may not be suitable to carry the satellite TV signals, which then requires a new cable being run to each television location. Another downside is that a small satellite signal receiving dish needs to be mounted outside, usually on the roof or wall of the home or business. Furthermore service contracts can vary. Where cable TV companies would send out a repairman to pretty much fix anything that caused their signal to stop getting to your TV, satellite providers may have the consumer do some basic troubleshooting himself before a repairman is sent out. Plus, there may be additional fees involved for service calls where a cable provider may not charge for the work. Satellite TV signals can be affected by vegetation growing up and blocking the dish such as trees getting taller or leafing out in the spring. Signals can be interrupted by heavy snow and rain. The amount of complaints of signal loss is lessened now due to better equipment and better installation practices. Satellite television providers used to argue that the cable company was just retransmitting signals received by satellite in order to prove that cable TV can go out in a storm too. However, cable TV providers utilize much higher grade signal receiving equipment than consumer grade satellite reception equipment so it is not a valid argument. There are those who absolutely swear by the television service their satellite TV company offers just as there are those who equally swear by the great service of their cable TV provider. Both major satellite TV providers and most cable companies provide a great television experience for their customers. So it comes down to a matter of whether or not one may want that little dish stuck to the roof or wall, and whether or not one is willing to do a bit of troubleshooting before a repairman will come out if something quits working. Be sure to read the fine print of any contract to see who will pay for what if something goes wrong.

Satellite Cable: Benefits Over Other Television Options ?

Satellite cable has taken over the television industry simply because it offers so many benefits over regular cable television for a lower price in most situations. Research has shown that satellite cable is people's preference because they can get more channels. However, there are numerous other benefits. For starters, satellite cable is available to those that live in remote areas. Many times cable is only available to those that live within city limits, which leaves those that live out in the country to have the options of using an antenna and converter box will usually only gives them a handful of channels. Since television is usually the main source of entertainment for families, a handful of channels just does not cut it. Thus, they turn to satellite cable. Many people who are on the fence about getting satellite cable often worry about the price. However, most of the big satellite companies offer such deep discounts to first time customers that it is cheaper for them than having to purchase an antenna then a converter box. For example, the satellite dish will be free as well as the installation and the satellite box for a specific number of rooms. With the converter box costing on average of fifty dollars, setting up three rooms for television would cost one hundred and fifty dollars. This is money that could be saved by going with satellite cable. Another huge benefit of satellite cable is that the cost per month is set for a certain time period that you sign your contract. Most of those who have regular cable often complain that month after month the price seems to increase. For those that sign a year or two year contract with satellite, which is the normal amount of time that have that price assurance for that time period. After that period they can usually have the same price, depending upon the type of programming that they have. For those that move frequently, cable just does not match satellite. Most satellite companies will transfer your new service to your new home and have someone come out free of charge and install the service. This is something that cable does not offer, which is one of the major downfalls of choosing cable over satellite. Overall, for the price and the number of channels that you receive with satellite cable, it is no contest between the two services.

Do today's tv need antenna?

The TV needs to be connected to something that provides the signal that you're going to watch. That can be a cable from your cable company, a satellite dish, an antenna, or just a DVD player if everything you want to watch is on DVDs.

What can you watch on satellite television that you cannot on cable television?

Satellite television gives viewers many more viewing options than cable television. Some of these are: * Sports: Nobody can watch the amount of sports coverage available on satellite TV. Almost every game of every sport can be seen. Everything from college sports to professional sports is accessible. Most of these are also in the unscrambled version and thus free of cost. * Education: Premium courses as well as college lectures can be seen. Courses of the graduate level are also available. You can watch these to improve your education or sometimes even to gain credits. * News: Live broadcast can be viewed. Even the gory and explicit stuff is shown live before the edits and cuts. Catch the action as it happens; something that can never be seen on cable television. * Space Stuff: There is at least one full time NASA channel on satellite television. These give you 24-hour coverage and not just the launch and little news snippets as on cable television. You can also see the various activities and experiments conducted by NASA. * International TV: Satellite TV gives you access to Mexican TV (with subtitles) and also Canadian TV, which is considered by some to be much better than American TV. * Business Programs: Many meetings, conferences, and conventions of various enterprises and businesses can be viewed through satellite systems. Although these are scrambled so as not to be accessible, there are still a lot that are not scrambled and can be seen. * Audio Channels: All kinds of music can be sourced using the satellite dish. AM, FM radio, talk shows, and 24-hour music channels can be availed of. You can end up listening to your satellite TV more than seeing it. Not possible with cable television. * Edited Stuff: Many shows and programs never make it to cable television and are discarded. These shows can be seen on satellite television. A lot more stuff such as lotteries, dog racing, court trials, etc can be seen on satellite television which would not be possible through cable television.

Well in 2009 tv will not go to all high definition it will switch from analog to digital meaning that if you are not assigned to a cable company or satellite company you will not be able to watch tv. unless you either join a cable provider or satellite provider or get a digital box.
