The Orange River originates in Lesotho (a country entirely surrounded by various provinces of South Africa) It crosses into South Africa on the boundary between the Eastern Cape and Free State provinces, then it becomes the boundary between the Free State and the Northern Cape provinces. Then it flows through the Northern Cape province and the final stretch before it reaches the Atlantic Ocean forms the border between South Africa (Northern Cape province) and Namibia.
