My A&P book states: Cells, of course make more than proteins---they also synthesize glycogen, fat, steroids, phospholipids, pigments, and many other compounds. There are no genes for these cell products, and yet their synthesis is under indirect genetic control. How? They are produced by enzymatic reactions, and enzymes are proteins encoded by genes.

Phospholipids have several different functions. They can act as anchors to cell proteins and can also act as protein messengers.
Phospholipids are a class of lipids, which are major components of cell membranes. The three subunits of phospholipids are phosphate, glycerol and fatty acids.
phospholipids are made in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
