Yes. Some of the basic beliefs are different, while both do believe in the Holy Trinity, and the Saviour's dying to remove our sins.

Also, the Presbyterian Church has a strong session of elders who run the church and make decisions. The Methodist Church's pastor makes the decisions. (My cousin, a Presbyterian, is a Methodist pastor.)

There are both too many differences and too many similarities between the Presbyterian and Methodist denominations to describe in any detail here. A major difference is their origins in separate Protestant traditions. The Presbyterian Church is part of the Reformed Tradition, recognizing the sovereignty of God in all things, including each individual's salvation. The Methodist Church is in the Arminian Tradition, which emphasizes free-will and individual choice. The denominations also differ in government and organization. The Methodist church is hierarchical, with authority moving upward from deacons and priests to bishops and archbishops. The Presbyterian Church has elders who are elected by congregations to represent them in Presbyteries (local,) Synods (state or regional,) and National governing bodies.

What is the main difference between Lutherans vs Methodists?

These are probably two of the most similar churches in Christianity. They share different views on some social issues but besides that, not much. There are many many differences, between the two bodies. I was raised in the Methodist and Presbyterian church , which are much more similar de to the roots of the denominatons. Lutheranism was patterned from Reformer Martin Luther a Roman Catholic priest. Although his 95 thesis was posted on the fdoor the Lutheran Church has remained the closest of the Protestant bodies to Catholic in doctrine and liturgy. Although Anglican is also similar to Catholic, there are many points of differences in doctrin which Anglican has more in common with the Reformed faith. Methodism which came from the word Methodical traces its roots to John Wesley an Anglican priest. The Methodist church became more of an evangelical holliness and revivalist denomiation. Some churches will vary in style. While still having some similarities to anglican, they still retain close resemblance to the Presbyterian church as well. Methodist are much less liturgical than Lutherans and have differences in doctrine regarding the sacraments of communion and baptism. Lutherans believe in consubstantiation ( similar to Catholics) with regards to Communion while Methodist hold a spiritual significance, much different. Methodist services can resemble a low episcopal or Presbyterian or Congregational church, but not a Lutheran liturgy at all, which again is much more similar to Roman Catholic.

What were the religious beliefs of the US citizens in the 1800's?

Mostly Prodestant but not as we know them today. For instance, Babtist and Methodist were much like the Pentecostal religions of today. Not the quiet, ceremonious churches we reconize them as today.

How is it different presbyterian chuch teachings from other christian groups?

The Presbyterian Church holds similar beliefs and tenets as other Protestant churches. The only specific teaching that isn't routinely taught in the others is a belief called "predestination." This means that God knows who will accept and believe in Him and who will not. However, since we are given free will by God, we have the liberty to choose as we please, but He knows HOW we will choose.

What is the difference between the First Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Church?

First Presbyterian Church is much larger, and exists all over the United States. The United Presbyterian Church is common in the southeast of the United States, and likely stems from the large number of Scots who first lived there. (Presbyterian churches were first tied to Scotland)

Can you marry in a methodist church if you are not methodist?

The fact is that yes, you can. They are open door to anyone that would like to experience the Methodist church. The Methodist church is welcoming to all types of people, and I can say without a doubt that you will be welcome there. I grew up in the Methodist church, and my grandfather is a retired methodist minister of about 40 years. Also, I have attended many weddings. If your soon to be husband is Methodist, tell him you would like to meet the Minister. All Methodist ministers I have ever met, are very warm and welcoming. I'm sure that a small meet such as this will make you feel SO much more comfortable. Hope this helps! :-)
