Regurgitation (throwing up) causes enormous strain on the body, specifically the heart. People who do it regularly often suffer heart attacks and some die. Additionally throwing up causes your teeth to rot because of all the stomach acid that comes up and past the teeth. It gives you bad breath too. Yes, eventually you will lose weight, along with all your energy and your health. If you want to be skinny you can do it that way but you won't do it long before you land in the hospital...or worse. SEE A DOCTOR!!!

They work by interfering with the process by which the liver metabolizes alcohol, and cause a buildup of toxic chemicals that would normally be broken down and excreted, so that they can also be dangerous, even deadly, if the person drinks.
However, unless combined with therapy and other support, they are seldom effective long-term. In short, they are simply one tool, and should only be used under the care of addiction professionals.
