WW2 was the last official declaration of war conducted by the US. The Korean & Vietnam Wars were fought against communism (cold war) as "LIMITED WARS", limited to the use of "Conventional Weapons" (No Nukes). Since the Vietnam War ended in 1975, the US has conducted Military Operations: 1. Operation Urgent Fury-Grenada (1983) 2. Just Cause-Panama (1989) 3. Desert Storm-Iraq (Jan-Feb 1991) 4. Restore Hope-Somalia (1993) 5. Bosnia Military Operations (Mid 1990's) 6. Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan (2001 to present) 7. Iraqi Freedom-Iraq (2003 to present)

American Jurisprudential Answer

Technically, No.

No declaration of war was actually even drafted by congress. What congress did approve is the AUMF the authorization for use of military force against Iraq.

Lexicographic Answer

What occurred in Iraq was a multilateral engagement of national armies, paramilitary groups, and terrorist groups fighting by means of modern urban warfare and guerrilla tactics that led to numerous military and civilian casualties. That fits squarely inside the definition of a "war".

Yes it is considered an "official" war. The war is not on Iraq but in Iraq. That is a note that shouldn't be confused.
