One of your controlled sims has to have reached the top of the natural science career. i think that career is only available with the Sims 2 University expansion.

No, you cannot have Sims 2 pets on Sims 3. You must have Sims 3 pets for Sims 3 or Sims 2 pets for Sims 2.
Social Workers come to your house if you adopt a child or I am not 100% on this but most likely if you neglet a child toddler or baby the will take all your children away except teenagers. if it is anything like what they do in sims 2 I am not sure
