At first why did Jonas misinterpret the Receiver's job of transmitting memories of the past?

I think the Reciever of Memory was passing his job to Jonas because he had a similiar bond to "The Giver", such as his pale eyes that were rare. Jonas is also an intelligent boy with integrity, but above all, he was able "to see beyond".
