Catholic AnswerOne is expected to support the Church throughout one's life. One discerns this from prayer and the teaching of the Church. The Church's teaching, based on the Old Testament law is the 10% of one's income should go to the Church, the usual breakdown is 5% to the local parish, and 5% to the Missions. There is no lower age limit on supporting the Church, although when one is a minor, obviously the only support one is capable of giving is attendance at the Sacraments, and volunteering. Giving 10% of one's salary assumes that one has a salary! A good start is to give a portion of your allowance, if you have one, and to start, even with a babysitting job or a newspaper route, to contribute 10% to the Church.
