You should be old enough so that you understand the following:

• Babies are a lifetime commitment: They get older, they get bigger, they eat more and they cost more to take care of.
• Babies and children don't have any sense of "now is not the right time": They cannot control their hunger, dirty nappies, crying, teething, gas, colic, tiredness, crankiness or vomit.
• Babies might look cute, but they require constant feeding, burping, changing, bathing, wiping, booger-sucking (yes, you have to suck their boogers out for them) and attention. You can't leave them at home while you go down to the shop and you can't always take them with you.
• The medical and education bills associated with having a baby are huge. You must pay for all your pre-natal care (scans, doctor + gynaecologist appointments), hospital stay and post-care. If you don't have tens of thousands of dollars in savings, you can't take care of these things.
• You also need to have family support. Babies need support and love from their parent/s. It's no good to think you can just go out and get pregnant in order to have a baby, when there's going to be no-one there to take care of you at the end of the day.

Having a baby isn't just about having a cute little baby that everyone comments on. So much work, effort and money goes into having a family. You have to be old enough to have savings and understand the responsibility.

This employer thing is a bad thing because it really put an extra effort into the calculation of when to have children.
