Among the top historians of the US Civil War is James M. McPherson. He has studied and written many important books on the US Civil War. He is not alone among his peers in saying that there was nothing inevitable about the Union winning the US Civil War. He stresses that the Union's success depended on maintaining Northern morale and that positive morale was tied in part to Union military campaigns.
The American Revolutionary War was from 1776-1781.The US Civil War was from 1861-1865.So there could be no answer if both wars are assumed to be American.HoweverIf you refer to the English Civil War, then the English Civil War was from 1641-1651. There were lots of wars around the world between 1651 and 1776.The one that involved the American Colonies and the British Empire was the French and Indian War (or Intercolonial Wars, part of the Seven Years' War) from 1754 - 1763.Other European wars during this time included:War of the Grand Alliance (1688-1697)War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714)War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748)(see the related question)
This is a normal cycle in human life. When the US Civil War commenced in 1861, veterans of the War of 1812 and the Mexican War (1846-1848) would criticise the young men going off to war, making negative comments or giving advice, such as, "...our flintlocks were more reliable than these new fangled percussion caps, at least we knew we had real gunpowder in the flash-pan! You youngsters can't tell if those new percussion caps will even go off!" In the Vietnam War, WW2 veterans made fun of the new "Mattel Toy" plastic rifle, the M-16; when we exchanged our wood stocked M-14 rifles beginning in 1966. "The M-14 was a "man's rifle", that plastic gun is a "toy".
