An airsoft gun is a gun that uses a force (either spring, gas, or electric motor) to push a blast of air at a plastic sphere (usually called a BB or Ball Bearing) out of the front of the gun.

The cheapest guns are spring operated. You must pull an handle back each time before you shoot. Electric guns use a rechargable battery to move a motor, that moves the piston that blasts the air at the BB. Gas guns use the gas to blow the bb out but uses a little of it to push the piston back so it can be fired semi-automatically.

I have found that Gas Blowback is the most expensive.

Do you mean ammo, or targets? in either case...

Ammo: Airsoft guns shoot plastic BBs which are 6mm or (very rarely) 8mm in diameter. BBs range in weight from .12g - .43g. The heavier the BB, the less velocity and distance, but more accuracy. Heavier BBs also tend to cost more. You can use heavier BBs than are recommended for your gun, but NEVER use lighter BBs. It is also possible to obtain biodegradable BBs. Note that metal BBs will not work in airsoft guns because they are only 4.5mm in diameter.

Targets: Airsoft guns can shoot just about anything! A powerful airsoft gun (320+ fps) will pop balloons, shoot holes in thin plastic, paper, and cardboard, and even shoot holes in tin cans! 400+ fps guns can go through both sides of a tin can, and break bare skin upon contact.

i have a 320 fps and it only just shoot through cardboard, if ur on about ammo you can get markerl bb`s which are basically paintball bb's but you have to have them under 300 fps or they pop in chamber

Opinion:Well it is an opinion but I say no, I bet a lot of people could agree. They are more older child "toys" but not toys. Answer:Without getting into a debate, an Airsoft gun is both toy and a teaching device. Anything that looks like or simulates the action of a gun should be used to teach gun safety. While the intended use of an Airsoft gun may be to shoot at other people, it is imperative that children who use such toys are taught when it is and is not appropriate to shoot at other people.

The fact is that we live in a world of violence, and in that world it is occasionally necessary for one human to shoot another. To be able to do this is one of the most difficult things a person can do. No need for argument on this point, it is what it is, and to support it, the US Military has devoted a tremendous amount of money to research psychology to better train people to do just this thing.

The fact is that those who played shooting games as children often make more effective soldiers and law enforcement officers; these are the two career paths that could (and likely will) lead to legally using a firearm against another person. If it is your choice to not let your child play with a toy gun, then so be it. Your child, your choice. That choice however does not carry with it the right to judge those who choose the other way.

Until the world no longer has war, armed conflict, or violent crime, the world will need weapons.

Toys teach.

Toy weapons teach comfort with real weapons.

Comfort with real weapons leads to the safe and effective use of real weapons.

Airsoft guns are plastic guns, used for target practice or having Airsoft "wars." Airsoft guns shoot small plastic bbs, with a typical radius of 6mm. Most guns are made of sturdy plastic and are parcialy metalic, but some guns are made of cheap plastic. These guns are not very strong, and are easy to break. You most deffinatly want to make sure that the gun you get isn't cheap. Most guns shoot with a power of between 200-600 fps. Even though these guns may sound dangerous, they are quite safe. In order to make sure you are safe while playing airsoft, you must make sure you wear the right equipment. You should always wear googles, and a half face mask to protect your face from any damage. You should also wear a long sleeve shirt and pants at all times. This is important because if a bb hits your bare skin, it may sting. Pads are also an option, but are deffinatly not necessary. I would also recomend padded gloves, for some peoples hands can be sensitive. Even considering all of this, Airsoft is just a fun and safe game for kids ages nine and up. I would deffinatly recomend getting airsoft guns for your kids.

In short, a lot.

Airsoft uses small 6mm plastic BBs and are driven by spring, motor or gas power. They are of limited range and power, generally safe to use in any environment.

An air gun uses .177 pellets or BBS made of lead or steel powered by CO2, large springs or compressed air (via pumping a handle on the air gun). They are generally lethal to small game and many people have been seriously injured and killed by them. They can have a dangerous range of over 100 meters. They should be handled and treated as you would a regular firearm. They require a backstop to catch the pellet or BB when used on a target range, and are generally banned from use in cities or populated areas.

Airsoft Guns are toys. Air guns can kill you or someone else if you don’t treat them with respect.
