Staten Island is the most 'suburban' and residential of New York City's five boroughs. It's not as cramped. There are a lot of shopping malls or strip malls, a few movie theaters and Bowling alleys, pool halls, gyms, and more.

A "bedroom community" serves as a place of residence for people who work in other communities. Staten Island's land use is mostly residential, not commercial. Consequently, most people who live there work in other places, either in New York (the Big Apple) or in one of the neighboring New Jersey towns.
i do, i live in Staten Island, a borough in NYC and visit Manhattan all the time. Manhattan is the place with times square, 5th ave, etc.
