I had an 88 buick regal and the e-brake pedal on the left front lower part of the driver side compartment was "pump to set". In other words, pumping the pedal and releasing several times is supposed to automatically adjust the e-brake, providing everything is working properly. As with mine, I replaced the rear calipers many times because they were a bad design and always got mucked up back there being so exposed to the elements. Where the e-brake cables attatch to the caliper was always freezing up because of dirt and debris. Make sure your e-brake cables really are good and free, then lubricate the hell out of the spring and attatching assy on the caliper. The calipers need to function properly too. If they are sticking, then it may have an affect on the e-brake assy. It's always best to use the e-brake often, as many automatics w/e-brake are seldom used and freeze up. Good luck.

Your brake pedal will have to be pressed harder with less braking power, there may also be leaking of brake fluid, causing the brake warning light to come on. the best way to test your master cylinder is to start the car, leave in park position and depress the brake pedal and hold. if the pedal holds in the same place without downward movement it should be allright,but if downward movement occurs either your master is finished,you have a leak in one of your lines or lots of air and a system bleed is needed
How do you bleed the rear wheel cylinder?
Start with the wheel cylinder farthest from the master cylinder....open the brake bleeder screw and have a friend slowly depress the brake pedal. (make certain that the master cylinder is full and stays pretty well full as you bleed, if you run the master cylinder dry you will add air into the brake system and have to start over) When your friend has depressed the brake pedal to the floor then you close the bleeder screw - have your friend let the brake pedal back up. Open the bleeder screw up again and have the friend SLOWLY depress the pedal again. What you are aiming for is an OPEN bleeder while your friend depresses the brake pedal and a CLOSED bleeder screw as the brake pedal returns to the top. (Foot off of the brake pedal) Repeat until you see no more air and the brake fluid comes out clean. Which means that the new Brake fluid has travelled completely through to the wheel cylinder. Watch the fluid coming out of the bleeder screw on the wheel cylinder, if it is dirty or has air bubbles then you need to keep bleeding. It is also a good idea to wait uo to 10 seconds until your friend pushes the pedal back down again. Try to keep an open line of communication with your friend so that you dont get out of sequence and he lets up the pedal with the bleeder screw open, which will pull air back into the system. good question. you do not adjust cable on emergency brake in 2004 f250. the emergency brakes are drum type brakes inside the rear brake disk on each wheel.if you know how o adjust drum brakes it is the same adjustment for emergency brake on this vehicle. on the back of the drum there is a small rubber cap. remove this cap and with a flat screwdriver or adjuster tool, you turn the the serated wheel inside the brake drum to adjust the brake shoes out till nearly touching the brake drum it is best to do this with the rear wheels jacked up off the ground, so you can spin the wheel while adjusting. by spinning wheel you will feel when brake shoe is starting to slow wheel and you will then know to stop adjusting. do this on both wheels if you over adjust you will burn brakes out and have to replace brake shoes. this is a pain as you have to remove the disk brake caliper and rotoar to get at the emergency brake

Answer 1IF the switch is KNOWN to be good, then the problem is one of two things. First, the proper adjustment of brake light switches IS CRITICAL to proper operation.IF the adjustment is proper, then the only other cause would be that, somehow, the and/or a (any) "hot" wire is in contact with the wire from the brake light switch to the brake lights. This is a very unusual and almost never occurring situation.Most brake light switches are adjusted via screw threads on the mounting end of the switch which screws in or out of the mounting bracket which is also threaded.The best method of adjusting the switch is to have a helper stand at the rear of the vehicle to keep you posted regarding the ON-OFF status of the brake lights while you trial adjust the switch.To adjust the switch where the lights are staying on, "unscrew"/back out the switch from the mount just until the brake lights go out.Then press the brake pedal to make sure that you did not back the switch out too far. If so, screw it back in, one quarter turn at a time [testing between each adjustment] JUST UNTIL the brake lights turn on when the pedal is depresed, but goes out when the pedal is released.
