[4] So the only permanent, successful control to biting black gnats is elimination or minimization of their favored breeding environments. That means that there's only temporary relief, not permanent control, to the human victim of biting black gnats. Appropriate aerosols, repellents, and sprays may be used to chase the gnats away. Fine mesh netting draped over a hat and falling down to the shoulders, as well as longsleeved shirts and longlegged slacks are also protective.
