Only two things will cause this light to appear on the cluster- 1) low brake fluid or 2) brake pad wear indicator was tripped due to the sensor loop going to ground. **this will also trigger a message on the cluster information screen saying "check brake pads". if this is the case and you are replacing the pads by yourself, be sure to buy a new wear indicator because some pads (like HAWK) do not come with a new set. another option is to simply splice the two wires in that go to the sensor and essentially close the loop back up and tuck it out of the way. the wear indicator is on the drivers side (US market) front caliper-

Normally I would refer you to the Related Questions about the ABS sensors and brake warning light. But...Ford has recently issued a recall for all Windstars regarding a faulty brake pressure switch - faulty in that it leaks - and the leaking fluid triggers a wide range of symptoms - including lighting up the ABS and BRAKE warning lights. (the titles of the Related Questions give you an insight to these symptoms)With all this in mind, I would suggest making the appointment with your local Ford dealer for the recall repair. I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't resolve the warning lights.See "Related Questions" below, especially the one about "Brake Fluid Leaking..." - that one has links to a website that has ALL the background information on the problems caused by this defect.

I believe this car has A fuel calculator to tell the opperator the current fuel consumption, If so, The 'low range' light will indicate low fuel.
There's a fault someplace in the braking system. That could range from a faulty emergency brake switch to low brake fluid level (check the reservoir on the master cylinder) to a bad master cylinder or a leaking brake caliper or other part. One thing for certain it is not a warning light to ignore. BTW brake fluid should be replaced every two years. While it doesn't exactly wear out it does absorb moisture very easily. That water finds its way to delicate parts and can cause rust, pitting and other issues. If it gets hot enough it boils, creates an air bubble in the brake line and then you have serious issues with stopping. If the fluid has never been replaced in your '01 you should get it to a shop pronto (especially with the dash light on). Cheers
Most likely cause is a faulty under bonnet pin switch
By range, I assume you meant on a firing range? Warning signs and signals (often the signal is a red flag warning that firing is about to occur) is there to lessen the risk of a firing accident. Anyone ignoring a warning sign could be putting themselves in danger of being maimed or killed by a ricochetting bullet, etc.
