Effective listening can be a very difficult thing to practice. First, you must focus your head, and your mind, and your brain. Second, you must make sure not to play any actual organs, even if you are a concert organist. Not only will they usually create too much noise for you to hear the other person, but they will also result in your conversation-partner giving you strange looks.

However, for ineffective listening, playing the organ is highly recommended, especially as a means of indicating that you prefer living alone and listening to Classical Music to having a rocking social life.

Effective listening involves the ears for hearing, the brain for processing, understanding, and retaining information, and the eyes for observing nonverbal cues and expressions. Engaging these organs collectively helps in comprehending and responding appropriately during communication.

What body parts are involved in listening?

The brain, primarily. The ears are the organs that mediate our sense of hearing, but listening is really a function of the brain. Listening is attending to what we hear. Think of the popular term 'selective hearing'. You might hear a great deal of noise, talking, music and excitement during a party. But you may be listening to the person you are trying to converse with while putting the other noise in the 'background'.
