Not really- the US President is Head of State as well as being head of the American Government, whereas the British Prime Minister is NOT Head of State, just the Chief Government Minister.
Unlike the USA, Britain is a monarchy, so the Head of State is the reigning sovereign of the time- right now, Queen Elizabeth II. The functions of the British PM and the US president are similar in that they are both leaders of their governments, but in the USA, the President is Head of State as well, whereas this is not the case in Great Britain.
