Answer:

The word "ghost" is a term straight out of the pagan religions of men... and it conjures up different images in different men who believe in such things. It still hangs on today in the form of lucrative Hollywood productions, pagan religious observances like Hallowe'en [or all-hallows-eve]... and in the hearts of men.

"Ghost" is mainly a product of the belief in the false doctrine of the "immortality of the soul" foisted on mankind by Satan in the Garden of Eden ["...Ye shall NOT surely die..."].

The Bible clearly reveals that "the dead know not any thing" -- Eccle.9:5; but Satan's teaching was believed [and in some cases, preferred] above God's revelation to this day. Spooks, goblins and the "ghosts" of supposed dead people walk the earth in the hearts and minds of men... not in reality.

The word "ghost" found in the KJV Bible is the result of the superstitious beliefs of the time in which it was translated. "Ghost" is not the original word inspired by God's Holy SPIRIT [sometimes translated 'Ghost' in the KJV].

Its use in the Old Testament of the "KJV" Bible is generally translated: "give up the ghost"... which really means "to exhale one's last breath" and die.

The superstitious translators substituted "ghost" for "pneuma" in the New Testament, which should rightly be "Spirit" when speaking of God's Holy Spirit. [for instance, Matt.1:18 should read: '...she was found with child of the Holy SPIRIT" - not 'Ghost']

There is a "spirit realm" revealed in the Bible, however, that entails "real living spirit beings"... the created "angels of God." We are informed that "one-third" of these created beings allowed themselves to become perverted by one called Satan the Devil.

Men care little about things they can't see, however, and in the course of time, "ghosts, goblins, spooks, spirits and demons" have become muddled in men's minds... and all basically fall into the categories of myth, superstition, fun, games and entertainment.

The answer to the question, therefore, is that there is no such thing as a "ghost." That is... if one is thinking that "ghosts of dead men" walk the earth. So, the Bible doesn't "scare away ghosts."

There are such things as "demons" or "unclean spirits" however. And the Bible doesn't scare them away, either. In some cases in fact, demons will use the Bible for their own purposes:

"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers [angels are 'ministering spirits' - Heb.1:14] also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." (II Cor.11:14-15)

Satan himself used "Bible scriptures" for his own purpose to tempt Christ: "...and saith unto Him, IF thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, He shall give His angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone." (Matt.4:6; see Ps.91:11-12)

The Bible isn't a book of "magic spells" that you hold out in front of you, like a "cross in a ridiculous Dracula movie." It's the Divinely revealed Word of God that's:

"...profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be [become] perfect, throughly [thoroughly] furnished unto all good works." (II Tkm.16-17)

The Bible isn't for "show." It's not a "talisman" to be held out in front of you to ward off evil spirits. The Words within its covers are to be EATEN!

It's intended to be "read" by those with humble hearts and minds. Its Words feed and nourish such hearts and minds with God's Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding, that:

"...ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Eph.6:11-12)

The "protection" of the Bible is the "Armour of God" within the scriptures digested by the reader. Truth, Righteousness, the Gospel [good news] of Peace, Faith, Salvation -- these components of "God's Armour" aren't applied externally... but internally.

If you have "ghosts"... you've been misled... and holding the Bible in front of them won't scare them away.

"Seek ye out of the Book of the Lord, and read..." (Isa.34:16)... and be edified in the ways of God.

This will dissipate the "ghosts"... and the internal Armour of God will help you stand against the spirit realm.
