The term "holy" has no meaning in the Buddhist context as Buddhism has no deity or deity related sanctification.
"Can" implies "is it possible" not necessarily "is it permitted". Basically, anything is possible.
So, a Buddhist might be found participatinng in a war. This would explain why the Samurai of Japan, many of whom were Buddhist, were also the participants in the various feudal wars of the Shogunate.
The Holy building for Buddhists is called a Temple.
there is nothing holy about war...war is killing..murder of men on a grand scale...it causes suffering ..pain...death...injury...it takes sons away from mothers...husbands away from wives...it destroys the land we live on...it poisons the water we drink...it poisions the mind we have....no..there is nothing holy about war...
