I am guessing that you are refering to the "Siamese Fighting fish" Better (more acurately) known as a Betta splendens. They do not have live young and so can not get pregnant. The male builds a nest of bubbles and looks after the eggs and fry in there until he decides they are capable of hiding and fending for themselves.
