Depends on the sect or denomination and by your definition of oppressive. In the middle ages Catholicism was oppressive, all sermons were given in Latin which no one spoke, many innocent people were tortured and murdered as heretics, witches, and various other moral "crimes", According to them you had to pay money and do good deeds to go to heaven. Other sects such as puritanism practiced some of the same behavior. However most of these practices occurred hundreds sometimes a thousand years ago and have since been nullified. Also Christianity does not advocate putting itself in a position were it could become oppressive say at the head of a government. In many western countries each member of a congregation chooses to go to church and be religious, there is always the freedom to say 'hey church is not for me, goodbye'. In other countries Christianity is often oppressed by certain radical groups of Atheism and Islam. In general, No your standard 99.99% of christian groups do not engage in oppression of it's members or unwilling people. The other .01% probably advocateoppresive activities but are powerless to instigate anything. note all percentages are general estimations and can be classified as conjecture on my part however they are probably quite accurate
