Yes, cats can be treated with penicillin as well as penicillin-class drugs provided the medication has been prescribed for the cat by a veterinarian after an examination and diagnosis of infection. Giving a cat the wrong dose of penicillin, or giving it penicillin when it doesn't have an infection or the infection is not susceptible to penicillin, can cause severe medical problems.

Penicillin G is typically an injectable form of penicillin, a common antibiotic used to treat a variety of Gram positive bacterial infections. A cat can be given PenG (as most veterinarians will refer to it as), but it is more common to use an oral formulation of penicillin or a related antibiotic in cats.

The Golden Rule about giving medication to your pets is: NEVER give your pet ANY medication unless your vet specifically says it's okay.

So, no, you cannot give Penicillin G Procaine, or any other medication, to a cat, unless you were instructed to do so by a licensed veterinarian.

Yes. Be sure you have the correct dosage. There is the pink stuff designed to be given orally and the liquid injectable of different strengths, which can be injected intramuscularly (IM), subcutaneously (SQ - under the skin), or can also be given orally. Veterinarians have done this. One concern is that the animal could have an allergic reaction. If you are not prepared for that, you should have a veterinarian do it. Another concern is that giving injectable penicillin orally could kill the good bacteria in the digestive tract and probiotics may need to be administered as well.

Many would advise that pet owners should not try to take full responsibility for ensuring their animals' health, yet those who raise farm animals are expected to do so. If you are comfortable with administering medication to your animal and you know what you are doing that's fine, but if you are asking online, perhaps you would be better off seeking advice from a professional you trust.

The important thing is knowing correct procedure, dosage, and what to look for if something could go wrong, and be ready to administer additional care if needed or have a veterinarian nearby to assist with any additional care required.

Never give ANY human medication to a cat without checking with a vet. Their liver does not process medication like ours does, or even like a dog's. Cats can be made sick or killed by many medications. There are antibiotics a cat can take, but you must check with a vet to ensure it's appropriate for your pet. Also, you should never give antibiotics to a human or animal unless you know that what they have is bacterial. Antibiotics are not effective against viruses. You need a proper diagnosis.

Yes, although the penicillin needs to be prescribed by a veterinarian. Penicillin in animals works pretty good on certain types of infections and can be a first-line drug for some vet clinics.

Unless prescribed by the vet very, don't give your cats any type of human drugs. Just one ibuprofen tablet will kill a cat
