I have had non stop uti's ( and also yeast infections from all the antibiotics to treat uti's) ever since i had mirena inserted in February 09. It has caused nothing but trouble for me. I actually just got off the phone with my gyno to schedule an appointment to have it removed. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!
Mirena does not cause BV and recurrent yeast infections. Both of those can be caused by using fragrances or other chemicals in the vaginal area that can destroy the natural bacteria that keep the vagina healthy. Avoid douching and the use of wet wipes or deodorant in the vagina. Don't wear thong underwear every day; save it for the pants that really need it. If you have any anal sex play with a finger, sex toy, or penis, be sure it gets washed well before it goes in your vagina.
