In most states, the age you are able to drop out with parent's permission is 16. If you don't have your parent's permission, then you must go until you are a legal adult, which is 18 years of age. Unless you're as lucky as Jim Carey, then you'll regret the decision to drop out later in life.

What is the legal age that children can stop going to school?

In the U.S. the current legal age to quit or drop out of school is 16, however in some states it depends on the situation. If a person has physical or mental disabilities that require special care home schooling can be available. Another example is if teen pregnancy occurs.States establish compulsory education laws, therefore the age differs. However, no student can leave school before the age of 18 without permission of their parents or legal guardian. - Nebraska's current legal age to quit or drop out of school is 16, however permission from parents or legal guardian is required.
