There is an exchange programme between The U.S. and U.K paratrooper units. So a U.K. Para can serve a year with the U.S. Airborne and a U.S. paratrooper can serve a year with a U.K. Para regiment.

What were the different parts in a British airborne division such as company battalion squad etc?

A start can be found here: wingsofliberation.nl listing, amongst others, the units making up the 1st British Airbone division at the time of Arnhem. regiments.org Will give an overview of British names and terms. I think that the British Army generally base their formations on the # 3. There would be, 3 squads to a section. 3 sections to a platoon. 3 platoons to a company. 3 companies to a battalion. 3 batt. to a regiment. 3 regt. to a brigade. 3 brigd. to a divison. 3 div. to a corps. 3 corps to an army group. 3 groups to an Army. There is always in addition to each formation within a regt. a support unit, and from company level up, H.Q. Unit plus specialties like "motar platoon", "reconnaissance platoon" etc. There is also in the Div. a Field Ambulance, M.T., Artillery, signals, engineers, intel, supply(stores), etc. This can be adjusted to suit the requirement with additional batts. added to a regt.such as the Parachute Regt. having 18 batts during W.W.2 plus a Brigd. of Gurkha and Indian para's in the Indian Army, and 6th Airborne Div included 1st Canadian Para Batt. The British Divisions in W.W.2 also included 1 Brigd. of Glider-borne Troops consisting of 4 batts. Everyone involved were classed as Airborne because they all arrived on the battlefield "borne on the air", and all fought side by side surrounded by the enemy. Hope this helps as a general guide. Re-reading my previous response, I need to add a correction - should read 3- armies to an army group. (Got it the wrong way around, my apologies !! Fred.

Who is better british paras or Russian paras?

Para's or Paratroopers do not make that comparision. They are elite troops that represent the best of their respective countries. Paratroopers are all one big fraternity and have a mutual respect of each other, regardless of nationality. While they might be poltical enemies, they still regard each other as the same: those who chose to be the best. On the contary to the guy above me's opinion. They don't share mutual respect. No force has mutual respect just look at all the elite feuds that go on today, Para's and US airborne (and now Russian Airborne), Para's and Royal Marines, SAS and SBS, SAS and Delta force, SAS and the SEALs, 101st and 82nd, US army and USMC, Royal Marine's and USMC. All will say they are the best and could beat one another to a bluddy pulp easily, but truthfully they can't. If their was a fight between the Parachute Regiment and the Russian Airborne, then the Para's would probably gain the upper hand but it's also likely a stalemate would be introduced and a stand off would then take place. The Para's would have the upper edge of tech, equipment and alliances but the Russian's have the man power and don't have a government willing to go into a war but not willing to then fight it properly *cough* Afghanistan* Cough (I'm British and have a very, very, very, very low opinion of all politicians from the past 15 years) but knowing the Para's they probably would still win because of their sheer determination and resourcefulness. And that with one phone call then at the minute they can have the RAF and USAF bomb Ivan to pieces!
