Most likely a bad sensor
Is vehicle actually overheating? Could be a bad temperature sending unit or gauge Check temperature with a thermometer If thermostat does not open vehicle will overheat
temperature gauge not working can be caused by a bad temp sensor in engine, a bad gauge in dash, or a bad fuse
If you are referring to the temperature reading on the gauge, then it's possibly a bad thermostat. It will also read 'cold' until the engine has sufficiently warmed up.Lack of fluid (water and/or antifreeze) in the radiator.Low engine temperature (bad thermostat).Low coolant level.Bad gauge.Wiring issue.Coolant temperature sensor bad or not correctly grounded.Problem in an electornic control module.
Bad gauge, bad sending unit, bad wiring.
A bad thermostat is one possibility.
Bad gauge or defective coolant temperature sensor
Bad Gauge---Electrical short---Bad fuse---Bad sending unit---loose or bad electrical connector to the gauge. Bad sensor. Had a faulty gauge on my 97 Ford Ranger. I changed the thermostat and the sending unit and the temperature sensor it started wotking beautifully.
Defective temperature sensor or bad gauge
Bad temperature sending unit? Bad gauge?
You will need to remove your oil pressure sending unit and install a mechanical gauge to get a true reading. You need to start out cold and write down the pressure reading and also once it warms up to operating temperature. If the pressure gauge is not the same as the mechanical one you have a bad pressure switch.
bad temp sender usually. Bad gauge rarely.
