Yes. The owner will have to present proof of ownership and pay any towing and impound fees. That is assuming the car cannot be held until a decision is made on whether or not state forfeiture laws apply.
If the car is in your name and no one confesses that they were there drugs then you are possible looking at jail time. If someone else was borrowing your car at the time and it was impounded you may have a suspicion of doubt and get out of it, or if you were driving it and there were more than you in the car you may have a suspicion of doubt or all of you get charged.
Usually that won't happen. The main reasons cars get impounded are: A) The driver has a warrant and nobody to pick it up, B) License is suspended and nobody else is allowed to drive (should there be passengers w/out licenses). or C) The car is unsafe to drive in the first place.
Some states will seize the vehicle no matter what. If the driver STOLE your car, maybe. If it was not stolen, and the driver takes responsibility for it, MAYBE.
Added: Either way be prepared to withstand some rigorous questioning and investigation as the authorities investigate just HOW and WHY the contraband came to be in YOUR car!! You had better hope the driver completely cops to it and leaves you out of it entirely.
The police often keep the car and sell it at auction.
If no drugs were found and you were aquitted completely, then they are liable for damages.
It would depend on what the car was impounded for. The easiest way is to pay the impound fees. Is that possible? If it's a case of the car being used in the commission of a crime (DUI or more serious) or if drugs were found in the car, you may be facing a forfeiture.
In most states they auction it.
Oh yes. Happens all the time.
yeah any car can be impounded
Not enough information is supplied about the reason for the vehicle impoundment. For instance - was it impounded as evidence? Was it impounded as being used in a crime? Was it impounded as an unsafe vehicle? Was it seized for drugs? Was it seized pursuant to an arrest for DUI?
You should keep paying for your car; otherwise, your credit score will go down. Obviously, you should also pay the impound fees so you can get your car out; the longer it's impounded, the more you owe.
Depends, if its on the same car, then your car gets impounded. If I was you I would go to the car lot and buy any car you can.
Contact local police station in the town where the car was impounded. they should have that information available
Call 911 to report the car stolen. If it has been repo'd or impounded they will tell you.
you continue to pay the note. just because you do not have the car available to drive at your whim doesn't allow you not to pay the note.
