I just came home from taking my 7 and 9 yr. olds to the pediatrician. They have Strep Throat and we were told to Stay Away From MOTRIN and ADVIL. Recent studies show that the overwhelming ability of ibuprofen to reduce inflammation (immune response) makes it hard for the body to build anti-bodies to the Strep. They now believe this is why so many kids get recurrent Strep Infections. It really has nothing to do with any kind of interaction with the antibiotic.
When your throat is sore usaully it looks like and irretated sometimes when you have a case of strep throat blisters form on the throat that can be many colors but most of the time are white. If child's throat is red before jumping to conclutions and taking him or her to the doctor make sure that they are getting plenty of water because sometimes dehidration can result in a sore throat. I have had strep throat many times and if you think that your child has strep throat then be sure to go to the doctor immediatly becasue if not treated in time strep throat can develope into scarlet fever and no one wants that!missy177
1. the child may also have a concomitant viral infection - remember, viruses DO NOT respond to antibiotics 2. the child is not taking the prescribed dose 2-3 times a day, or 3. the level of amoxicillin is not reaching the blood stream in a large of enough quantity to kill the throat strept microbes - in this case, your pediatrician would either have to increase the dose of amoxil or change to a more potent medication (ie, augmentin). Possibly a throat infection.. smelly breath and a high temperature generally means you should think about taking your child to your gp.
yes.
Please call your health care provider today. If your child is being treated for strep throat, he needs immediate attention when passing brown urine, as this is a sign of complications in strep.
The child should not play football after his tonsils are removed until his throat heals. A hard blow could start his throat bleeding.
5-10 mg/kg (max 400 mg) every 4 to 6 hours.
The child is considered as contagious for ten days on azithromycin. ( Now that, contributor got the point, as to why strep throat is uncommon in developed countries.)
It isn't recommended. See your child's doctor for more advice on the subject.
They will get blisters in the throat and start to get a bad cough
no a child shouldn't take ibuprofen any way they should take Motrin
Depends on the child. In most cases the Q4-6 hrs is a safety net. Doubt it will cause any problems. Biggest side effect in Motrin ( ibuprofen is stomach upset.
