Yeah it can. It's a good idea to run a can of fuel injector cleaner through you gas tank at each oil change. It can be purchased at most targets, walmarts and so on or at any auto parts store for about $4.00. There are other things that can cause you to lose power though. A dirty fuel filter, air filter or a clogged catalytic converter can also cause problems. How long has it been since you had a tune up? If you car has 100, 000 miles or more it probably needs one. I'd try the injector cleaner first and a fuel filter second. Good luck.
Fuel Pump problem or clogged converter
A clogged converter will cause an extreme loss in power, poor mileage, and hard starting. If it is clogged really, really, bad it may cause the engine to not even start.
Yes, it is possible. It will also cause severe loss of power.
A bad spark plug or spark plug wire can cause your engine to miss and lack power. A bad fuel injector or dirty fuel injector can also cause the problem.
Might be a clogged injector. Run some injector cleaner through it, or replace the injectors.
Could be a clogged catalytic converter, rotor cap is bad, fuel filter is clogged, fuel pump dying.
There are numerous issues that can cause a lack of power during acceleration. Common causes include a clogged fuel filter, a clogged air filter, and dirty fuel injectors.
Fuel filter is clogged - fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - fuel pump is failing. Also: I have seen extreme examples of combusion chamber carbon build-up causing this problem as well.

A partially clogged fuel filter will cause hard starting, stalling, and loss of power. It will also cause the fuel pump to overheat and self destruct.
The fuel port injector are more than likely clogged. The second option is to make sure the fuel pump is working.
