Yes, the gear banging in VW Touareg can be as a result of the defective coolant temperature sensor.
Refer to your user and service manual to see where the coolant temperature sensor is located in the VW Touareg V6.
The Coolant Temperature sensor is defective.
Bad gauge or defective coolant temperature sensor
The code P0125 indicates insufficient coolant temperature for close loop fuel control. It can be caused by a defective thermostat, engine coolant temperature sensor, intake air temperature sensor, low or dirty coolant, or a defective cooling fan that runs constantly.
According to AutoZone ODB II readout: Definition Coolant temp is always low. Explanation The powertrain control module verifies that the engine is at a proper operationg temperature. Probable causes 1. Check coolant level 2. Thermostat defective 3. ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor defective. In my case it was low coolant caused by defective radiator cap. New cap and one gallon of coolant did the trick for less than $20. Mike-Ro
Low coolant Defective radiator cap Radiator plugged or air flow restricted Coolant fan sensor defective (should operate fan if coolant temperature exceeds 235 degrees)
No coolant Thermostat not opening Defective temperature sensor
With engine coldDrain coolant from radiatorRemove hose clamps on defective hoseRemove defective hose and replaceRe-fill coolant slowly to prevent an air lockStart engine and look for leaksRun engine to normal operating temperature with heater onRe-check coolant level
Low coolant level? Cooling fan not working? Thermostat not opening fully? Water pump not circulating coolant? Plugged or restricted radiator? Defective radiator cap?
The light is not a coolant light, it is a temperature light which comes on when the temperature of the coolant is above the limits. In other words you engine is overheating. Can be defective thermostat, bad water pump, clogged radiator, or blown head gasket.
I assume you are asking about the coolant fan. The switch is a relay located on the radiator support bracket on the passenger side of the vehicle. There is also a fuse near the relay. The engine control module, computer, operates the relay. There is a temperature sensor at the bottom of the thermostat housing that the engine control module reads the coolant temperature from. Any of those being defective can cause the coolant fan not to work. Of course the fan itself can also be defective as well as any of the associated wiring. The coolant fan should be turned on when the coolant temperature reaches about 220 and will stop when the temperature is below 200. l
