If you can turn a wrench, have a torque wrench (pan bolts) you can do the job. Keep in mind that there may not be a drain plug on your model so the pan will be full of fluid when removed.

Answerto save a headache and mess, lay down lots of cardboard around the area and wear clothes that you have no problem throwing out, DO NOT cheep out on the type of fluid you get for it, I cannot stress this enough, a quality fluid will offer more protection than a grocrery store brand, that's it, that's all, have fun Answerfor about $5. you can buy a hollow bolt from NAPA. Once you have the transmission pan off, you can drill a 1/2 inch hole in the bottom and install this hollow bolt. After that it will be easy to drain the pan (approx. 1 gallon of fluid).

How often should you change the transmission oil?

I drop the pan, change the filter and top-off (aprox 4 qts) with new fluid every 35K. You only drain less than half of the fluid but it is better than not changing it at all. If you are not a "do it yourselfer" you can have a garage flush the transmission every 50K or so depending on your driving habits. You can also check your owners manual for a specific mileage number.
