You can go to the tpwd website and do a search. It says that muzzleloaders which are pre-1898 models, or replicas of those models are lawful, but that's it. As long as the gun doesn't use centerfire or rimfire ammo, which is basically anything but a muzzleloaders. So, it' almost not even worth it, unless you want to carry around a civil war musket to hunt with. Texas ex-felons can have modern guns in their houses after 5 years have past from serving your time or parole/probation. But if you take them outside your home, you're in big trouble if you get caught.

It is a violation of federal law and the laws of most states for felons to own, be in possession, and is some states be in close proximity to any firearm. Some states even have the same prohibitions against the ownership, possession, or close proximity of felons with any type of launching weapon such as bows and crossbows.
