Best Answer

Its is a chromosomal mutation in which during the duplication the segment is repeated. For example, segments segregated as A B C D E- F G H when duplicated will be A B C B C D E-F G H where segment b and c are duplicated. Duplication categorizes under an error of replication.

Genes can be duplicated due to errors in meiosis such as slippage during DNA replication or the activities of transposable

elements.
Gene duplications that do not have severe effects can persist over generations.

Why is stage of the cell cycle prerequisite to the next?

i think it has something to do with the distribution of genes that will be inherited soon by the offspring. interphase is responsible for the creation/production of organelles and it is where DNA was synthesized. it was followed by mitotic division, which is the duplication of genes with the same number of chromosomes. then meoitic division will carry the genes but divide the chromosomes to half so that during fertilization it will restore the original number of chromosomes.

What is gene duplication?

Gene duplication is a key mechanism in evolution.

Which genes are responsible for Charcot-Marie-Tooth?

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is actually a heterogenous group of disorders known to be caused by variants on 40 genes. The most common form of CMT is caused by a duplication on chromosome 17 that results in an extra copy of the gene for Peripheral Myelin Protein 22 or PMP22. This duplication causes demyelination of the nerve axons, and, eventually, muscular atrophy. For more, visit www.charcot-marie-tooth.org.

What processes are thought to have led to the evoultion of the goblin gene family?

Genetic duplication, I think. Once duplicated in a mutational type event ( stuttering replication ) natural selection could work on the genes duplicated.
