Any company, including a gym, can send a bill to collections if money is owed. If you pay the bill, the collection will be taken off your record.

Can an account be sent to collections of dental work not completed?

I have worked in collections in the past and if they have performed work on you and you do have a balance with the dentist and its in non payment status, then YES they can send you to collections. I recommend getting onto a payment plan with the dentist. They usually are pretty flexible with the patient because if they send you to collections then they have to pay a fee to the outside collection agency and normally they try to avoid that. Hope this helps

Who will write a collection letter?

Primarily collections departments and collections agencies. Most of these organizations have a series of form letters they send. The bulk of collections is done this way, not requiring anyone to call the debtor. Only about 15-25% of the collections in the US require an actual person to contact the debtor and make arrangements for payment or get cussed at and hung up on.

If you're paying a med debt every month miss 1 month but send them the money you would have paid can they just send it to collections even though you already told them that you'll continue to pay?

Promises don't matter. Until the money is in their hands, the debt is unpaid and they can turn you over to Collections. With today's economy as it is, people are being sent to Collections for accounts just a day or two overdue.
