In somewhat colder weather, yes.
a horse can live in a field but in the winter it should have a rug on to keep it warm and dry or you could put it in a stable for just the winter or all year round.
you would put a rug on a horse during cold, windy or wet weather or when the horse is sweaty/wet or being bothered by flies. you would put a stable rug on a stabled horse when it's cold, sweat rug on a wet/sweaty horse, a new zealand rug on a horse turned out at grass when it's wet/windy/cold and a summer/fly sheet on a horse being bothered by flies.
A stable rug is a type of 'blanket' that you can add to a horse, mainly to keep it warm. There are many different reasons to wear a stable rug.In Winter time:-if it had a fine coat or a thick coat and was in the stableIn Summer time:-if it had a fine coat and was in a stable.
Horse rugs function the same way for horses that clothes function for humans. Because horses are warm blooded, they are affected by the climate. If it is too cold for the horse, a horse blanket will be put on the horse to keep it comfortable and to prevent it from getting sick.
The word rug usually means turnout rug which is a waterproof, durable blanket for the horse to wear outside in bad weather. Depending on what region you live in fall through early spring is rug season.
It all depends on what the weather is like, eg. one summer i had to put a winter rug on it. Also, if the horse is clipped it will need a rug on all the time besides when exercising it. I would say Winter and Autumn you will need a thick rug on including in the stable and spring and possibly summer a light rug maybe in the stable, DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER!!!
A special horse rug that is waterproof and specially designed to keep the horse from getting muddy and wet in the field.
if you have trained a horse and it is sweaty you would put a cooler on it, a thin fleece blanket
If a horse has worn a horse rug while being ridden, the rug should be lifted and removed and the horse should be brushed where the horse rug was worn. The rug should be place on something that would allow it to get good ventilation to air dry.
A cooler horse rug cools down a horse when it gets hot and sweaty.
it depends on the type of horse and also on the season x in summer a fly sheet is handy ( especially for those which are clipped ) in winter a turnout rug either lightweight/m.weight or h.weight in really cold weather and if a horse is clipped in the winter it could be handy to have a stable rug and an under blanket. in hot weather a sweat rug is good for those in tough work.
make sure horse has water rug up in winter pick droppins out of field(manure) check horse for cuts grazes etc.... make sure the field is rid of poisinius plants
