To threaten to kill someone is taken very seriously by the justice system no matter what age you are or what reasons you have. If a young person is being abused physically (punched, kicked, twisting arms, etc.) or verbally abused (calling them names such a 'stupid', 'you'll never amount to anything', 'your no son of mine', 'why don't you do us all a favor and leave') and you have not provoked such behavior then you can go to Child Aid and place a complaint against your parents. If they decide you truly are abused then you may be put in foster care or perhaps with another relative until you are no longer a minor. If a person is already facing the court system for making such a threat all aspects of the environment in which the minor grew up in with be taken into account. Like threatening suicide, threatening to kill someone is something that must be taken seriously.

It is not appropriate for a child to use threats of violence, even for self-protection. It would be best to seek help from a trusted adult or authority figure to address the situation in a safer and more constructive manner. Depending on the circumstances, the child could receive counseling or support services instead of going to juvenile detention.
