Unfortunately yes he can. He can be in love with you and still have feelings with an ex and it's generally a bad sign that he still wants to communicate with him. The best thing to do is bring it up bluntly but calmly and explain that if he wants you he has to truly want only you and act like it, otherwise he should have stayed with her! Good luck
