Are stallions harder to care for than geldings?
Stallions are harder to care for than a gelding or mare. When they see a mare in heat they will go crazy trying to um breed. I would only recommend a stallion to someone who has a lot of experience riding and care taking. I definetly would not recommend one for a child or teen (I'm a teen, but I have been studying and riding horses since I was very little.)

you should buy a gelding first because mares go into a heat cycle and can get very MOODY AND OR VERY ANGRY even at nothing so they can be hard to handle for novices and geldings are usually very calm so a gelding would be better.

Do mares still go into estrus when infertile?
If the mare is infertile because of age, yes they will continue to go into estrus. The hormones still work, but no more eggs are being released. If the mare has been spayed (which is very rare) and the ovaries are removed, the mare will no longer go into estrus.

Go back to the mare you want to breed with go under reproduction and then private offers (it will be colored not gray of you did the steps before) and click confirm!

A foal gets his immunity from the first milk from the mare called colostrum. As long as the mare is healthy and current on her vaccinations the foal is good to go for about six months. At this point it is good to consult your vet to see what he recommends but this is about the time (give or take) to start his life-long series of vaccinations.
