The general rule is that when joint legal and physical custody exists the parent that wishes to relocate needs to have written confirmation from the other parent that he or she agrees to the move. If the parent does not voluntarily agree the matter will need to be decided by the court.

Verbal permission is legal as well but it is always advisable to have everything in writing including visitation and support issues that might apply.
