I don't know about other states but in MS yes IF! you are unemployed when you first filed for unemployment then found a part time job. In MS the first $30 is not counted then every gross dollar you make takes away from your weekly unemployment check.

=====

In IL, you can earn up to 50% of your BASE benefit amount with no penalty. For every dollar over that 50% ceiling, your benefits are reduced by an equal amount.

Example: $200/wk BASE benefit amount

Week 1, working part time I earn $100. There will be no reduction in unemployment benefits since I haven't exceeded 50% of my base benefit amount.

Week 2, working part time I earn $125. My benefits for that week will be reduced by $25 since I have exceeded 50% of my base benefit amount by $25.

Qualifying for unemployment from a part time job will be difficult, since the time worked and amount earned are probably going to be less than needed.

Sometimes with a family, people are forced into part time work and are unable to make ends meet. Most states allow you to collect unemployment if working part time, under certain circumstances.

Some may have you collect on a former employer if you are still in the benefit year and you had claimed unemployment before your present job. Much depends on the state you work in and their criteria. Contact your state unemployment office for clarification.

If you had a full time job and lost it and is collecting some money from the full time job you had, then yes. It is very difficult to collect if the state did not give you that much of a check in unemployment benefits. You are required to report your earnings to the unemployment office. If the company is not planning to hire you full time then it is best to just hang on to this job and look for a full time position elsewhere. Contact your state for more details

It is possible, depending on your state's laws, the length of time worked (in the base period), amount earned and reasons for leaving the job.

Each state has its own criteria regarding length of time worked in the base period, total wages earned, reason for leaving the job, etc. rather than definition of full or part time work. Contact your state employment office to see if you are eligible.
