In basic theory yes it would get colder by installing a lower temp thermostat.
However the common household refrigerator was not designed for that application,..most household Units set at the lowest temp can cool down to about 35*F in the refrigerator section,and 20-28*F in the freezer section... putting in a lower temp thermostat may cause the unit to run constantly as it tries to achieve the lower temp settings and If your unit runs constantly your electric bill will skyrocket and I would estimate that within 3-7 days of constant running you would either burn out a thermal overload or the compressor unit...
