Uh, yeah. If it skips when a valve is open the piston can hit it, and it'll either break the valve or not, but if it doesn't, and it hasn't hit TDC it'll lock up.
Incorrect Timing Can Cause Backfire.
Yes. A fault in the timing chain usually leads to a total loss of the engine as the timing chain synchronises the mechanical operation of the engine. If this goes wrong bits of the inside of the engine will be physically destroyed (the engine will have to be rebuilt). It is MOST IMPORTANT to replace the timing chain on an engine WHEN the manufacturer says it need to be done.
To replace timing chain on a 3.1 Chevy Lumina engine, you need to first make sure that your motor or engine is turned off. Then you need to remove the chain and replace it.
It must have a timing CHAIN because Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) doesn't list a timing belt for the 1999 Saturn 1.9 L
It must have a TIMING CHAIN because Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) doesn't list a timing belt for the 2.2 liter - 4 cylinder engine - in a 2006 Saturn Ion
A Ford 429 engine does not have a timing belt. As a V8 engine, it uses a timing chain that is located on the front of the engine behind the crank pulley, the water pump, and the timing chain cover. If you've little experience working on big block V8s then I'd suggest paying a mechanic (make sure he's in his 50's or he won't know how to do it!) to replace the timing chain.
That would depend on the make / model of the vehicle.
I looked up a 2007 Pontiac G5 with the 2.2 liter 4 cylinder engine on the Gates website ( they make timing belts etc. ) and they don't list a timing belt so it must have a TIMING CHAIN
It must have a TIMING CHAIN because Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) does not list a timing belt for a 1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.3 liter V6 engine
It must have a timing CHAIN because Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) does not list a timing belt for the 3.8 liter V6 engine in a 2006 Hyundai Azera
timing BELT ( according to Gates , they make timing belts etc. - it is also an interference engine )
Yes , the 3.5 liter V6 engine in a 2007 Toyota Camry has a timing CHAIN ( according to the Gates website , they make timing belts etcetera )
