Yes. Especially now that modern airplanes have auto-pilots that fly the plane without the pilot holding the controls.

A few years ago, there was a famous golfer who died when he and the pilot died in the plane due to poor oxygen system. The plane continued to fly and almost reached Canada before it ran out of fuel and crashed.

[[Addition to original answer]] Planes CAN fly without pilots while in the air, but they have not yet been mastered to fly without pilots completely. There have been many attempts to create aircraft that are able to take-off and land on their own, but they have all seen their own problems. Most Auto-Pilot systems in present day are programmed to disengage themselves at about 500 feet AGL.

Will robots be able to fly?

In a sense, modern commercial aircraft and many military fighter aircraft are already flying robotic devices. Built in computer controls fly many of the airplanes that are in the air at this moment, it's called "fly by wire". Some of the fighter aircraft are so difficult to keep in the air, the only way to actually perform that task without tiring out the pilot is to have the computer manage the control surfaces while the pilot only appears to fly the airplane. As for commercial aircraft, auto-pilot is certainly a robotic function.
