I think your question is regarding a day that the company is not open. No, they cannot force you to take a sick day, a vacation day or a personal day...but they also don't have to pay you for the day (unless you are a salaried employee.) They can just schedule you to be off without pay on that day. So, they are probably suggesting that you take a sick day if you'd like to be paid for the time.
Yes, an employer can force an employee to take sick pay or vacation time when a company is closed due to disaster. States that have an "at will" employment rule allow employers to do this.
Yes
Yes its possible - if the state employment laws allow them to and there was no employment contract involved.
no law prohibits that. Employees work as scheduled by the employer, or they leave.
Permanently, if you and your employer agree to it.
Annual leave for employees refers to as paid time off that is granted by your employer to be used at an employee's discretion. Depending on the employer, you may receive X number of days off per year and are granted all those days at one time. You would have to have discretion from your employer on when you can use them.
5 days
The employer can never use your pay. YOU can be compelled to use your paid time ( a gift from the employer) for days you do not work. The employer can make any rule it wishes about that.
No. There is no law requiring they they provide you with paid sick or personal days. They must, however allow you to go on maternity leave without giving your job away, for up to 6 weeks, but they do not have to pay you for that time.
There are nine statuary holidays each year and employees have other days off which vary according to employer but usually a minimum of 28 days.
An employer is never in a position to 'punish' an employee, and is in big legal trouble if he does it and the employee can prove it in court. No law restricts an employer's right to discipline employees with schedule changes. Employers face no court imposed liability for doing so. An employer can't 'make' his employees do anything. The employer can state the work assignment, and then each employee is free to choose among three options in response: 1). Comply, 2). Negotiate, 3). Walk.
Now a days, more and more employees are asking employees, especially potential employees, about their social media presence, including Twitter. Many employers use Twitter to judge potential employment candidates' employability.
noooooooooooooooAnother answer: In this state there may be a contract provision. An employer can require all potential employees to take a physical. School boards require all employees to pass a physical examination once a year. Employers may require employees to obtain a doctor's approval to return to work after three days of sick leave. The same rule would have to apply to all employees.
