Can anyone tell me about an old smith and Wesson gun I have the only number I see is on the bottom of the handle. 20496?

Unfortunately, we really can't. That is the serial number, but that by itself means little. If you can give us a description (caliber, number of shots, ALL markings on the gun) we may be able to make an educated guess. Sorry, but you have to give us something to work from.
