Black smoke can be caused by a faulty TPS

The answer is yes, a bad TPS can cause black smoke, it is the reason you have a p0121 code for TPS switch A circuit range.

symptoms are ( or can be )

Intermittent stumble on acceleration or deceleration

Blows black smoke on acceleration

No start

Best to get that replaced as soon as possible, as for the rest of the codes you have.

P0171 System too lean, bank 1 ( too muck oxygen in the bank 1 exhaust O2 sensor)

P0500 Speed sensor malfunction ( unrelated but you will need to address it soon)

P0505 Idle air control valve malf ( could be tripping because of the O2 reading above, or you have messed with the idle to make it run and it is higher than the max setting.)

P0141 O2 sensor heater circuit malf. your car uses heated O2 sensors it is taking too long to respond to a request for information from the computer, it is probably bad, could be O2 sensor malfunction, or could be something you did to alter the way the engine runs .

It can also cause the engine to increase the amount of fuel it uses.

My advice

See to the TPS first, clear the codes, reset the idle to factory setting and see what comes up.

Review the codes you get ( or lack of codes ) and proceed from there.

Next step would probably be that O2 sensor.

Don't forget to replace that speed sensor, the computer needs that info to tune the engine properly.

Will throttle position sensor cause hard shift?

The Throttle Position sensor measures the throttle position, which is controlled by the gas pedal. It is used to determine engine load and if it fails it can cause automatic transmission shifting problems.

What are the symptoms of failing throttle position sensor in Mitsubishi Mirage Car will not idle when warm.?

A failing throttle position sensor will cause idling problems when the car is warm. The failing sensor can also cause the car to stall when idling.

What are the symptoms of a bad throttle position sensor in a 91 Saturn sl1?

A bad throttle position sensor, on your 1991 Saturn, will cause the engine to run rough when it is idling. The engine will run normally at higher speeds.

Where is throttle position sensor 2003 dodge ram?

If it is an 3.7L or 4.7L engine it is on the throttle body mounted on the side. If it is a hemi engine there are two throttle position sensors. The throttle body is electronic. There is a position sensor mounted underneath the battery hidden behind a cover. The accelerator cable goes from the gas pedal to this sensor. This sensor sends info to the PCM (powertrain control mondule). There is also another position sensor inside the electronic throttle body which tells the PCM what position the throttle plate is at. These throttle bodies on the hemi engines become dirty and cause codes like a P2175 and 2106. It will also make the ETC light flash, and cause low acceleration and limp in mode problems. Cleaning this throttle body will correct this.

Can a throttle position sensor keep the engine from starting?

A throttle position sensor might keep the engine from starting. Any number of things can cause a vehicle not to start. The starter and the gas line sensors are also a possible culprit.

What would cause your 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora to not run unless your foot is on the Accelerator?

What does a throttle position sensor do?

The throttle position sensor (TPS) keeps the PCM informed about throttle position. The PCM uses this input to change spark timing and the fuel mixture as engine load changes. A problem here can cause a flat spot during acceleration (like a bad accelerator pump in a carburetor) as well as other drivability complaints.the throttle position sensor (tps) tells the computer where you have your foot while driving ( half throttle or quarter ect.)
